How many solar panels do I need for my home?

Divide your system size (in watts) by the panel wattage. For example, a 3 kW system with 545 W panels needs about 6 panels. Most Indian homes install 2–5 kW, i.e. roughly 4–10 modern panels.

How much roof area does a solar system need?

Around 80–100 sq ft of shadow-free roof per kW. So 1 kW needs ~85 sq ft, 3 kW needs ~250 sq ft and 5 kW needs ~425 sq ft.

Do higher-wattage panels mean fewer panels?

Yes. A 545 W panel produces more than a 335 W one, so you need fewer of them for the same kW — handy when roof space is tight.

How many units will these panels generate?

Roughly 4 units per day for every kW installed, so a 3 kW system makes about 12 units on a good day (~360 units a month).
